Water Treatment FAQs
How do I know if I have a water quality problem?
Common signs include white, chalky scale buildup around faucets and showerheads, soap that won’t lather well, spots on dishes and glassware, cloudy or gritty water, or a noticeable drop in water pressure as sediment builds up in pipes and fixtures. If you’re on a private well, it’s worth having the water tested, since well water quality varies a lot from property to property even in the same town.
What’s the difference between hard water and soft water problems?
Hard water carries a high mineral content (mainly calcium and magnesium), which is what causes scale buildup in pipes, water heaters, and appliances over time, along with the soap-lathering and spotting issues above. Water that’s been treated to remove those minerals is called soft water. Either can come with its own issues — hard water shortens the life of water-using appliances, while some households prefer to avoid fully softened water for drinking.
What causes sediment or silt in household water?
Sediment and silt are typically fine particles — sand, rust from aging pipes, or mineral deposits — suspended in the water supply. It’s especially common with well water, where the aquifer or the well itself can introduce particulate matter into what comes out of your tap.
Does a water treatment system need ongoing maintenance?
Most systems need some level of upkeep — how much depends on the specific equipment and what it’s treating for. We’ll go over the maintenance a given setup needs when we’re out assessing your water.
