Rebates & Financing FAQs
What rebates are available through Efficiency Maine for my heating upgrades?
Efficiency Maine structures cold-climate heat pump rebates by household income tier: any income level qualifies for up to $1,000 per outdoor unit (capped at $3,000); moderate-income households (individual filers up to $70,000, joint filers up to $100,000) qualify for up to $2,000 per outdoor unit (capped at $6,000); and low-income households enrolled in programs like HEAP, SNAP, TANF, or MaineCare qualify for up to $3,000 per outdoor unit (capped at $9,000). A qualified whole-house heat pump conversion adds a $500 bonus, and upgrading to an advanced pellet or wood-fired hydronic boiler is covered at 1/3 of project cost up to $6,000. Our team provides your finalized installation invoice and matching AHRI certificates to help you apply, but you submit the rebate paperwork directly through the Efficiency Maine Customer Portal — final approvals and incentive disbursements are controlled entirely by Efficiency Maine or the independent program administrators, and we don’t guarantee any utility or state rebate.
Are there any fossil-fuel heating oil rebates available?
The Maine Energy Marketers Association (MEMA) coordinates NORA-funded rebate pools that, during active budget windows, provide up to $450 for upgraded higher-efficiency oil heating systems and $300 for new heating oil storage tanks. Funding for fossil fuel equipment is highly cyclical, so our team verifies active program funding levels at the time of your estimate to help you secure every dollar available.
What financing options are available through the state-backed Efficiency Maine Green Bank?
The Efficiency Maine Green Bank offers unsecured loans up to $25,000 with no home liens required: a 1-year option at 0% APR (with a $500 origination fee spread over 12 months), a 5-year option at 5.99% APR fixed with no origination fees, a 10-year option at 7.99% APR fixed for the lowest monthly payments, and an income-based option for qualified low- and moderate-income households offering a 10-year, 5.99% APR tier for unsecured loans up to $7,500.
Can I finance my new boiler system through NEIF?
Yes — we’re an approved contractor partner with the National Energy Improvement Fund (NEIF), a certified B-Corp, which is a good fit for equipment configurations that fall outside Green Bank parameters. NEIF’s EnergyPlus Loans are simple-interest, fixed-rate installment loans from $2,500 up to $50,000 with no prepayment penalties, and qualifying tiers offer competitive rates such as 8.99% APR for credit scores over 700.
